POSTCARDS SENT BACK FROM MAGICAL PLACES

“Art: postcards from other magical places” is a blog about pieces of art come about from various ‘spiritual’ journeys.

1 Art is proof of some kind of true journey.  It is the postcard that has been sent back. The making of art is a lone journey, but, its often accompanied by insights and exciting experiences.  The art itself is just the product of the senses.  The journey is the most exciting part.  What we’re left with is just clues, evidence and some physical signs of this journey.

Because art is very spiritual, it can’t be seen.  But art is one of the 'connectors' there is between the spirit world and the physical world.  Art is usually made visible by senses.  These postcards come in all forms: musical, oral, taste, visual, touch, smelling, erotic… and art is ever changing, ever transmuting.

2 Art is an authentic postcard.  What we bring back from an artistic journey is only a few clues.  These clues are arranged to display the complexity and potency of the journey.
Why these journeys anyway?

3 Because human beings have an amazing capacity to reach a higher potential, art is a way of transcending our earthly attachments and meditating on our higher consciousness. Art is our salvation.  Look at Gandhi and some of the great saints, Mother Theresa.  All these human beings achieved higher levels, merging their lower beings with their higher beings, using their heart as a centre.

4 Art is a derivative word from ‘heart’ It is the physical proof of an authentic, heartfelt journey. Its origins are from the unique individual. Copies or trends or fashions often obfuscate the journey and an artist must find its true self and follow its own heart on a journey.

5 Creativity is like a muscle–it is strengthened with use. Re-birthing our creativity is less a process of cultivation (as our conventional schooling system leads us to believe) and more a process of rebirth–a way of letting go of preconceived notions about ourselves, other people, and the world we live in. Essentially, unlearning what we have come to believe as factual. It’s a matter of reigniting our inner child and daring to express it.

It is then that the postcard becomes an authentic proof of the courageous journey.
